Advantages Of A Personalised Number Plate

Author: Derek Both

There are many advantages of having a DVLA personalised number plate which is why so many people choose to get them nowadays. Your very own registration number is a great way of making your car more unique to you. Maybe you want it to say your name, part of your address, age or anything else that means something to you. It is unlikely that anyone else will have a similar registration so you can be assured that yours will be completely unique.

A DVLA personalised number plate can make a great gift for a friend or a loved one. It is something completely different so you don't need to worry that anyone else will have given them the same present. You also know that it is something useful that will definitely be used rather than be put to the back of the cupboard and never looked at again. A copy of the tax disc will be needed when processing the DVLA personalised number plate however so unfortunately if you choose to give this to someone as a present they will have to know about it.

How many times has someone asked for you car registration number and you've had to go to your car to find out? A surprising number of people don't know the registration of their own car which can sometimes be a hassle when you're filling out forms that require this information. Having a DVLA personalised number plate means that you will never forget your registration number again. You are bound to have chosen a number that means something to you and is simple and easy to remember. So the next time you have to write down your registration number you won't have to go all the way out to your car to find out.

Some people don't like the fact that you can tell a car's age by the registration number. With a DVLA personalised number plate you cannot work out this information because it is extremely unlikely that the numbers will have anything to do with the age of your car. This means that whether your car is a year old or 10 years old no - one will know any different.

It is easy to see why DVLA personalised number plates have become so popular over the years. There are many advantages to having them and these days they don't cost nearly as much as they used to.

Car Repair Coupons: 4 Types of Repairs to Save On

Author: Andy West

Car repair coupons are essentially like free money. Every car needs a certain amount of regular maintenance and repairs: oil changes and tune ups to keep it running its best, and replacement parts such as tires, brakes, batteries, and alternators as the old parts wear out. Since you already have to pay for these repairs anyway, these should be used to knock the cost of regular maintenance down a little.

Car repair coupons can be found in a lot of different places. Local auto repair shops often place advertisements and coupons in local newspapers, magazines, and other publications. Online coupon sites, such as Valpak are also a great resource for coupon clippers. Finally, many shops send out their own mailings or post their current specials right on their website. Here are the four types you are most likely to find.

1: Oil changes are the most frequent type of maintenance cars need. By about three thousand miles, the oil and oil filter in your engine start to wear out. Replacing the oil and filter regularly keeps your engine running smoothly, prevents harmful buildup inside your engine, and even helps to maintain optimal gas mileage. Dirty oil, on the other hand, creates buildup that can damage the engine, leads to dried-out and leaky seals and gaskets, and creates more resistance on the engine as it thickens -- causing your fuel bill to increase too.

Since oil changes are needed so frequently, there are tons of auto repair shops and quick lube places ready to compete for your business. Because of this, shops almost always include a coupon for a discounted oil change.

2: Tune Ups. After oil changes, tune ups are the next most common repair that car owners have to do: Tune ups typically should be done once a year, or every twenty or thirty thousand miles, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. A tune up typically includes replacing the air filter, the spark plugs, PCV valve, and the distributor cap and rotor; some parts only need to be replaced every two or three years, such as the oxygen sensor and the spark plug wires. The mechanic will also visually inspect the car's various systems to make sure everything is functioning correctly.

All of the potential replacements can make tune ups very expensive, particularly if the mechanic finds something wrong. Auto shops will give you a discount on at least the basic tune up, so that if something else turns out to be wrong, at least the bill won't hit you quite as hard.

3: Wheel alignment is another one of those things that you should have checked regularly. Most auto repair shops offer an inexpensive wheel alignment check that will tell you if you need your wheel alignment done. Proper wheel alignment produces the least amount of rolling resistance on your car, ensuring that you get the optimum gas mileage; it also causes the entire tread of the tires to make contact with the road as you drive, which spreads the wear out along the entire tread and helps your tires to last longer.

With the expensive but very precise equipment most repair shops use these days, wheel alignments can be pretty expensive. To compete with one another for your business, many repair shops will issue alignment coupons periodically, often offering a significant discount off the normal price.

4: New Tires. With the length of the average commute these days, most people end up needing to buy new tires every couple of years. Since tires can be pretty expensive, many tire shops and service centers send out mailings and print them in local papers. If you know you will need tires soon, be on the lookout for these coupons.

There are many other types of car repair coupons than the four listed above. These are just the most common. You'll notice as you hunt for coupons that you also find some for replacement windshields, bodywork, and even general repairs. In fact, it's not uncommon to find a coupon from an auto repair shop that simply states dollars off for any repair work made over a certain amount spent. You'll find that looking for discounts is like an Easter egg hunt. The coupons are all right there under your nose; you just have to look for them.

Latest Mercedes Technologies

Author: Kalin

Today of the age of mass media and information everything is progressing fast. The technology today could be way too old in just a few months. To keep things on track Mercedes offers new solutions every day. New ways to improve your way of driving and feeling into the car are implemented in every new model that goes to market.
First let’s get a hint on what technology really means. If we ask Wikipedia – the biggest encyclopedia world knows today we will get the following: “Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment.”
It is knowledge of tools and crafts. And this is what you will get for your Mercedes car - tools designed and crafted especially for your needs to make you feel better, to make you drive safer and to get your world into a new plane of existence.
Up until today Mercedes showed the world the capability to impress with precise, up-to-date parts with excellent quality. No matter if these parts are simple accessories, safety features or entertainment systems – Mercedes make them all to the best they could be in every moment.
Today the car is part of almost everyone’s life. That’s why many people today knows more about what they need and what they want from the next car they will drive. Buyers are giving feedback on the needs they have, on the quality they get, on the dreams that are floating into their minds.
Mercedes began reaching for everything buyers wanted starting from what is the most important aspect of these needs – safety systems. The manufacturer made even the fortune telling possible with advanced radar and cameras systems. Powerful mathematical systems analyses data provided by the radar and cameras and warn the driver about every possible danger that may occur as he drives.
For example S- and CL- class Mercedes cars are using radar-based system to detect drivers on the blind spot of the driver who are changing lanes. This system is called Blind Spot Assist and it is installed in the front and rear bumpers scanning for vehicles that are located in the blind spots where the driver could not normally see them. A warning system is telling the driver when there is a car on the blind spot giving the driver a way to react in a proper manner.
Keyless systems have been already used by other car manufacturers for Cadillac, Infinity and BMW models but Mercedes shows something pretty innovative. A credit card style system will replace the keys. It could be pretty cool to have just another card in your wallet which will be the way to enter and start your car. This is not made just to make your pocket lighter but for a better security because keys proven to be not very effective.
One very powerful tool is the highly improved navigation console system which will make your ride very effective and your final destination closer than you think. With a cool screen on the dash this system will give you the power of the global positioning satellite and some on board DVD’s. A location will be easily checked and a direction to it will be shown for you. Hotels, hospitals and everything that you will need will be available for you. Maps and some pretty vital information will become your guide as you drive into an unknown area. This will make getting lost almost impossible because in every moment you could keep track on where you are and where you are going to.
Wi-Fi is a protocol for data transfer. This fine solution is implemented into almost every vehicle. It will provide information about weather, news and everything that is currently available in the region. This could be pretty entertaining too.
Many important parts of a Mercedes car are hooked up into a computer analyzing every condition they are facing and every reaction they are providing. This information is stored into the memory of the computer system and it could be easily transferred using a cellular phone or laptop. You could send this data to the manufacturer, to you personal mechanic or to anyone you choose. This enables for a perfect diagnostic to be made if it is necessary. Every problem could be solved even on-the-fly via a long-distance troubleshooting procedures.
One good way of importing new devices will be to use the new 40 volt electrical system. This will provide you with a way to use even more devices in your car. Of course keep in mind that every new device you hook up will require additional power which will cost you. However don’t let that stopping you from using things you really need.
There is a voice prompt available for you too. This will literally enable you to “talk” to your car. It will not even mean that you are going crazy because a powerful artificial intelligence will analyze your voice and make the proper adjustments you require. For example picking a radio station will be very easy for you. You will only need to tell the system that you want a radio and the station you want to listen to. It could be pretty fun but try not to call it Tracy, Vicky or in any other female name while you are talking to your wife on the phone.
Electrically controlled pedals are available for some time now in many Mercedes vehicles. The force you apply to the pedal will not mechanically set the brakes or accelerator on motion. It will only send a signal that a motion is required. This enables the action to occur quickly. This could safe you time when every second counts. For example you will be able to use the breaks in the moment you push the pedal which in many situations could be extremely important.
Some programmable Mercedes vehicles are available too. They use electronics to adjust the Mercedes car to the needs of the driver. For example lowering or raising ground clearance could be made easily. This enables the driver to pick the right choice for him.

A Brief History Of Rolls Royce

Author: Thomas Pretty

Rolls Royce is a name synonymous with style and elegance; the cars made by this company are renowned for their luxurious nature as well as the quality of their design and manufacture.

Dating back over one hundred years the car company has made models for the rich and famous and today, to own a Rolls Royce can be seen as marker of success, wealth and opulence. The company started from modest beginnings and has etched a niche in the luxury car market and created one of the recognisable and well known brands globally.

Rolls Royce traces its history back to 1884 when Frederick Henry Royce started a mechanical and electric engineering business. Based in Manchester the first car, simply labelled 'The Royce' rolled of the production line in 1904. During this year he was introduced to a man that would help him start one of the most prestigious car manufacturers the world has ever seen; that man was Charles Stewart Rolls. A deal was broken between the two men that Royce would manufacture cars while Rolls would sell them.

The manufacturing plant moved to Derby in 1908 and Rolls Royce as a company was officially born. The first model produced by the company was the Silver Ghost and only six thousand of the models were built in Derby (a further seventeen hundred were built in Springfield, Massachusetts to cope with American demand).

The company then made a move to purchase rival Bentley in 1931 as Bentley had been struggling through the great depression. Up until fairly recently, 2002 to be precise, Bentley and Rolls Royce cars were almost identical in many respects, minor aesthetic differences were evident however.

Two years later the company changed the colour of its radiator badges from red to black. For a long time this was considered a mark of respect to the recently passed Royce but this however is a misconception; the reason for the change was that black clashed less with the colour of the coachwork. The coachwork was built externally for many years but Rolls Royce changed this in 1959 with the release of the Phantom mark IV.

Apart from making cars, Rolls Royce has a history of supplying vast numbers of aeronautical engines for the British military. At times, especially during the twenties, the aeronautical industry formed most of the business for the company. Royce, going back to his mechanical background enjoyed engine design; the last engine he was able to design was the Merlin, an engine that powered many of Britain's World War Two planes.

The planes that used this fantastic engine were diverse and carried out many different roles for the allied war effort. The hero of British bombing, the Avro Lancaster used four of them to get into the air while Wellingtons and Mosquitoes also employed the Rolls Royce Merlin. Most famously was the use of the Merlin in the fighters of the day, two heroes of the Battle of Britain, the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire were both powered by a Rolls Royce engine while the American P-51 Mustang, arguably the best fighter of its day also used the Merlin engine.

As well as many military uses the engines built by Rolls Royce have powered some of the most recognisable engineering efforts of the twentieth century. Powering the cross channel hovercraft to this day as well as the legendary Concorde, the contribution made by Rolls Royce engines to the modern world is hard to dispute.

The aircraft company endured financial difficulties during the seventies leading to the company being nationalised for almost twenty years. The car company however avoided nationalisation and remains a separate entity to this day. Still a marker of wealth and status the cars Rolls Royce produce are considered the ultimate in motor design. Used by royalty and the super rich to this day the company continues to go from strength to strength.

Hybrid Cars - Should You Buy A Hybrid Vehicle?

Author: Serg Caro

A hybrid car is a specifically planned and made vehicle that mixes the strength of the conventional gasoline motor and electricity. In the past, many have referred to hybrid cars as electric cars.

Technically, a hybrid automobile can not be classified as just electric because only about 40% of the energy use of the vehicle is from electric sources, in the form of collected electricity in batteries.

As oil costs continue to rise with depleting supplies and rapid expansion in demand, all economies globally are experiencing the setbacks of the need to limit high use of fuel.

For a long time, research and improvement has been vigorously finding ways on how struggles in regards to very high demand could finally be abolished. With the invention of the hybrid automobile, car owners and drivers all over the world are now manifesting comfort that yes there is hope.

Though the wide use of hybrid cars provides hope that in the future, when oil sources finally and fully run out, the transportation industry will not experience the drawback. Yes, at this time, driving a hybrid car could result in huge savings for the car owner.

At least, the overall usage of oil could be significantly reduced. Research continues to be ongoing so that in the near future, further more efficient versions of the modern hybrid car can be developed and launched into the market.

However, just like many other predecessor technologies, there are many problems to owning and using a hybrid automobile. Many people hope that in the upcoming months or years, people can finally realize a better and more useful hybrid vehicle. Here are the most realistic and understandable of those frustrations.

If the hybrid automobile gets into possible accidents and collisions in the future, there is a possibility that the incident would be more tragic. A hybrid automobile traditionally and usually has high voltage cables within it.

Because hybrid cars are still not quite rampant and regular, purchasing spare parts may be very challenging, if not impossible. In addition, costs of spare parts can be rather costly.

Any hybrid automobile needs to allocate a significant amount of space for batteries. Because the hybrid automobile needs batteries to make it work and for the use of some if its functions, the total weight of the automobile gets greater and greater.

Because the hybrid vehicle technology is still a fairly new automobile technology, it is just certain that the automobile is costly. On the average, a hybrid car these days costs more than the standard and typical automobiles by approximately $2,000 to $5,000.

That is just an average and is expected with the high demand for the car as more buyers get thrilled about it and manufacturers continue to make the automobile models on a restricted ability.

There are several states in the United States and some other global governments globally that are charging additional fees and other charges for possession and registration.

A regular and even basic hybrid automobile is composed of a very sophisticated automobile system. Thus, ordinary mechanics likely would not have the necessary and required skill set and understanding to attend to any technical requirement for repair of any hybrid automobile.

Do not forget that hybrid cars move more slowly than traditional automobile models.

Chrysler Sebring Convertible

Author: dennis james

The freedom of breathing open air and having the soft wind blowing in your hair, it just never looked so good! With the smooth and elegant style of the Chrysler Sebring Convertible sparkles like some cars would in a movie, and the best part of it all is that the car hardly ever blends in with the rest of the scenario. If driving one of these, your car will permanently be the centre of attention and boy, will you have a lot of lifts to give! With the keys to a Chrysler Sebring Convertible in your hand, you won’t be able to say no! You have to understand, with this car you are going to have to enjoy the fact of people staring with gaping mouths and huge smiles….while your hair blows back in the wind and soothing music pumps into your ears.

There’s nothing better than having the option of a retractable hard top while behind the wheel of a Chrysler Sebring Convertible. With the simple click of a button you will be able to adjust the settings on the instrument panel for the hard top. This great feature is even available when you have the top down. You will probably be happy to know that the trunk of this vehicle is larger than many others, allowing you more space for your trips or when you go to the golf course! Even when the top of the roof is down, the trunk is still the same size. The soft top works much like the hard top; it can be controlled by the simple touch of a button. You can use the instrument panel to control this feature or you can use the key fab, which ever works best for you.

You will not find many cars that allow this feature; but with the Chrysler Sebring Convertible you have the option of having the top down and the wind blowing peacefully in your hair, without your hair being all messed up when you get to your destination. What makes this possible is the way the windscreen is designed; it allows the wind to flow over the windscreen and pass over you, and keeps on flowing, without roughly getting your hair into knots. (If you have enough hair to form knots that is!)

Within the interior of the vehicle, the instrument panel allows you to control features from the roof top, right to the cupholder where you can choose whether you want it to warm or cool the cup placed in the holder. Convenience has never been so….convenient!

When it comes to the Chrysler Sebring Convertible and entertainment, well let’s just say you won’t be bored! This car has a multimedia infotainment system with 20gigs of hard drive space, stereo radio system that is CD and DVD compatible, satellite radio, audio system controls for the steering wheel and booming speakers.

You are sure to enjoy this car!

Muscle Cars: How to Rebuild and Modify Your Muscle Car

Author: Alex Baumm

After the World War II, muscle cars became an instant hit, as motorists and car buyers aimed to acquire vehicles that would showcase and show great power and speed. The term was basically a name description of what the car was to the industry.

Muscle cars were considered the instruments to bring back the glory and profitability of the global car industry. Muscle autos were hugely popular in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

With the emergence of many other car brands and more superior car models, muscle cars are now nowhere in the map of global cars. However, there are still some of those vehicles that are in circulation within the market.

Those muscle autos are now considered novelty and collectors' items. If you happen to own one, it surely would be your interest to improve and revitalize the look and performance of your old car. Thus, you would certainly find ways on how you can rebuild and modify your muscle auto.

Here are some suggested procedures on how you can rebuild and revitalize the look and feel of your muscle autos. Take note that some auto detailing techniques may already be familiar to you, especially if you are into regular auto detailing.

1. Plan the restoration process ahead of time. Muscle cars are important and are sensitive cars. Any error or mistake on the rebuilding and auto detailing procedure could greatly harm and alter the overall appearance of the exterior of the car.

Thus, it would be advisable if you would do a research and ask experts on what to do right about your muscle auto. Make a simple list of things to do and do a checklist to serve as a guide as you do the rebuilding and modifying process.

2. Spend time and more effort rebuilding the body of the muscle cars. Pay particular attention to details. The overall body of the car should be given more care and proper treatment. Do you need to modify and do little changes at the engine and the overall system?

If you are not too familiar with it, just leave it to the experts. Just tell them what you want, what you aim and what you intend to do and let them do the rest.

3. Settle to do a major auto detailing. When the insides of the muscle autos are modified and improved, take time to do a major auto detailing process.

When you auto detail muscle cars, you aim to revamp and overhaul the total exterior and physical package of the vehicles. Repaint. Spend to repair damaged parts. Check the wheels. In no time, the muscle autos would look as awesome as new again.

4. To wrap things up, check the overall electrical system of the muscle autos. Pay attention to the electrical wirings responsible for the proper functioning of lights and horns. Make sure the battery is functioning well.

5. There is no need to change the overall physical appearance or the assembly of the body packaging, not unless you want to remodel your muscle autos. If you do so, your muscle cars would cease to be muscle cars and should be called through other names.

As your muscle cars take a new rejuvenation and look, always remember that muscle cars would not ever function like the modern powerful cars. During their time, muscle autos were the most powerful vehicles on the road.

How Deterring Thieves Will Keep Motorbike Insurance Quotes Low

Author: Thomas Pretty

Motorbike insurance is an integral part of the pleasures of motorbike ownership. Not only are motorbikes easier to steal than cars but riders must also ensure their insurance covers them for personal injury and third party collisions. Despite this, motorbike insurance quotes are remarkably cheaper than quotes for a car. Most probably because cars are generally more expensive; but even with cheap cars, insurance quotes can be more than those of a motorbike.

According to a recent report on motorbike crime, theft of motorcycles went up one hundred and thirty five percent in the five years between 2000 and 2005. This unsurprisingly has driven up insurance quotes for those who own motorbikes. The level of theft has reached worrying proportions; it is now believed that more motorbikes are stolen then bought new in any twenty four hour period.

The extent of the problem is a headache for insurance companies who are forced to drive up premiums. Criminal gangs are believed to steal an estimated three million pounds worth of bikes every month; a truly shocking statistic. With it only taken on average twenty seconds to steal a motorbike there is little wonder why the level of theft has become so high.

The report has also given some idea of the level of motorbike crime in the UK and the various hotspots; mainly urban areas. The regions with the highest levels of bike theft were Greater Manchester, the West Midlands and West Yorkshire.

The reasons behind the thefts range from the splitting of bikes up for spare parts that will eventually make it onto the black market. Also bikes are believed to be stolen by 'joyriders' looking for a good time. Surprisingly however, the majority of bikes are stolen from houses, making insurance companies insist on garage storage.

One thing the insurance companies can do is insist motorbike owners install some form of tracking device. These devices have led to multiple recoveries of stolen bikes in the last few years. It is believed that one company's tracking system led to two hundred and ninety two bikes being recovered in 2007; with an estimated worth of nearly three million pounds this is an impressive solution. Added to the bikes recovered, the tracking devices enabled police to break up seventy six professional theft rings and recover an extra two million pounds worth of stolen motorcycles.

The nemeses of the insurance companies are the organised crime syndicates that have made a lucrative business by stealing motorbikes. As the popularity of motorbike riding is increasing the trade for black market bikes and spares is also on the rise. The ease of stealing a motorbike is astounding as often it only means lifting a bike into the back of van and driving off.

It is mainly high powered sports bikes that are stolen and subsequently have the highest insurance quotes. Of the bikes stolen the most popular makes are Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Harley Davidson. New bikes are targeted predominantly due to the need for spare parts on the black market and the opportunity to sell the bikes whole.

So how can you prevent your motorbike from being stolen and keep insurance quotes down? Ensure to park your bike in a garage with obstacles obstructing the bikes path when at home. When away from home find a well lit parking spot in full view of a security camera to improve the safety of your bike. Never on any occasion leave the keys in your bike, even if you are only going to be five minutes. If selling your bike it is worth being wary of those taking test rides as they simply may never come back.

Following this advice may help to keep your motorbike insurance quotes at a reasonable level. There is no doubt that the theft of motorcycles is a lucrative business for the criminal fraternity. Deterring thieves should be a major concern and should ensure you have a bike to ride for years to come.

Just Add Boomers And Yamaha Motorcycles For A Perfect Blend

Author: Jerry Johnson

What is the perfect mix for fun and excitement? Just mix a Yamaha and add fun with a Baby Boomer and you will have the perfect mix of excitement. Baby Boomers are approaching their social security era so why in the earth do they want a Yamaha? Boomers are not like any of the previous groups of populace who have already approached sequestration. Boomers still want to continue to live their youth. They have the money to do so.

Yamahas offer entertainment, exhilaration, thrills, spills and also a place of class jealousy. Yamahas aren't low-price so these Yuppies want to buy one and flaunt their financial status. They aren't the quickest bikes or the easiest to ride but that isn't an issue for a Boomer. It is all about awareness. Yamaha motorcycles, Yamaha babes, Yamaha road trips are all part of the American delusion that brings together the Boomer with his Yamaha.

The name of the Yamahas seems to point us older folks to the younger crowd. Yamaha XS, YZ and Hayabusa reminds me I need a dictionary when I am ready to ride a Yamaha. Yamaha Royal and Roadster motorcycles bring up visions of the open road. Let's not forget the Yamaha jackets, sunglasses, riding pants and the hundreds of other must have Yamaha accessories. There is no question that Boomers may be getting old but they still want to have it all.

We even get pleasure from motorcycle auctions especially if there are some good buys on Yamahas. Shoot, we will even buy a Yamaha and just park it in the garage and wait for it to appreciate. Humorous think; it usually does.

We came of age watching biker movies, the beckoning call to Sturgis, and Hell Angels. When we sit down on that bike, we can't help have vision of being one of that "bad" but mistaken biker. We just recognize owning a Yamaha comes with Yamaha babes (at least that is our thought process). It is probably a legend but a boomer worth his salt is certainly not going to refute it. It is all about representation and the biker image.

Bottom-line, the fine folks over at Yamaha have cultivated this image of Yamaha motorcycle riders being a hard-hitting guy. This image has been converted in quite a successful profitable company that just keeps going on and on. Yamahas are the competition. They know it. If you ride one, you will know it.

Motorcycle Protection Gear -Types of Helmets Available

Author: Matthew Hick

When it comes to choosing a motorcycle helmet, there certainly are a lot of choices out there. From three quarter shell, and half shell helmets there seems to be style to fit every biker's tastes and comfort level these days. Of course, each of the three main helmet styles features its own advantages and disadvantages to riders. . Choosing the right helmet depends a great deal on your own personal taste. Here is a brief rundown of each major helmet style to help you in making your best decision.

Full-face motorcycle helmets are designed to cover the entire head and face. It features a hard shell that extends from the brow over the cranium to the base of the skull at the top of the neck. This hard safety shell also rides forward along the cheekbones to encompass the jaws and chin. A clear visor also helps to keep the wind, rain and any dust or debris from affecting your vision while riding.

Full-face helmets are generally considered the safest of all the styles, since they cover the largest area of a rider's head and face. Their main disadvantage, however, is that they are the heaviest of all the helmet styles, and may cause neck fatigue when riding in strong winds or for long periods of time.

Within the full face helmet category are two individual styles: racing helmets, which are very sleek and light; and dirt bike helmets, which is the lightest full face helmet version available. Since it does not feature a visor, goggles are recommended.

The Three quarter shell motorcycle helmet is similar to its full-face counterpart, except it does not wrap around the entire face. Instead, the shell extends from the brow over the cranium to the base of the neck and forward over the ears. A chinstrap is used to secure the helmet in place.

Some benefits of the three-quarters face helmet (which, by the way offers many of the same safety benefits of a full face helmet), is the ease in which riders can communicate while wearing it, and how quickly it can be removed without causing sight blockage
The half shell motorcycle helmets, often called a beanie helmet are the least intrusive of all the helmet styles. They cover only the top half of the head. Weighing the least, the half shell is very light, does not block the ears, and offers the least wind resistance. Unfortunately, this style also offers the least protections of all the helmets.

In order to meet the legal requirements for those states that have a mandatory motorcycle helmet law, all motorcycle helmets must meet the minimum Department of Transportation (DOT) standard. Helmets meeting this criterion will sport a safety sticker acknowledging DOT acceptance. And approval.

SNELL, a non-profit organization that sets a more stringent voluntary standard of helmet safety also offers an approved sticker for helmet buyers. Helmets that are both DOT and SNELL approved are considered the safest helmets available to today's bikers since they are designed to meet the highest standards of protection within the helmet industry.

Special Tips to Get The Right Size Biker Leather Clothing

Author: Richard Sherland

Get it right the first time you will surely be disappointed if your beautiful leathers arrive and they don't fit correctly. Online is a great place to buy leathers but you want to be sure to get your size right. Making a mistake here may mean sending it back and that means extra costs.

Many biker leather sites have sizing charts and you will use these measurement procedures and the sizing chart to determine your final size.

First: how to measure for the correct size For women Measure around the fullest part of bust under arms with arms relaxed down at sides. For men Chest:Measure around chest just under arms across shoulder blades with arms relaxed down at sides. For Coat/Length: Measure from the highest point of the shoulder down.
Height: Measure from top of head down standing barefoot on a hard flat surface with normal posture.
Hips: Measure around fullest part of body at the top of legs with feet together.
Inseam: Measure from inside crotch seam to the hem of pants that fit you well.
Waist: Measure around natural waistline, which appears as crease when bending to one side.
Neck: Measure around fullest part of neck.
Sleeve: Measure from center back of neck, over point of shoulder, and down outside of arm past elbow to wrist with arm relaxed.

LEATHER JACKETS and VESTS Leather jackets have number sizes that correspond to chest inches. For example, a size 46 jackets would measure 46 inches. It is best to measure your chest while wearing a shirt and then to order the next size higher in a leather jacket or vest. For example, if your chest measures 45-46 inches, then order a Size 48.

To measure, use a standard tape measure and wrap the tape measure around your back, just under your armpits and then loosely across your chest. If your waist size exceeds your chest size, then use your waist measurement and go up one size. You can also supply us with your measurements at the time of the order.

You want to choose a jacket that is big enough for your actual chest measurement. And you want to make sure the size will be big enough for your belly (if you have one). The max belly for any size jacket is approximately 6" less than the jacket size (example: max belly for a 46 is a 40" belly).

Size charts for chaps are listed in most sizing charts. The most important measurement for chaps is the thigh. Using a standard tape measure, measure around the thickest part of your thigh while wearing jeans or pants. Do not order a pair of chaps that are less than your thigh measurement. Each pair of chaps can be adjusted down should your waist size be less than what is listed in the size chart.

If they are going to be worn for cold weather riding put on all of your under garments and then take your measurements.

Helmet size charts are listed with the description for each helmet. To measure your head, use a standard tape measure and wrap the tape measure around the back of your head, just above the ears and then across the forehead. If your head size is between two sizes, order the smaller size, as it is better if the helmet fits tighter than too loose.

Please take into account the clothing you will be wearing underneath your jacket or vest when selecting your size. Your shirt size will not necessarily be your jacket or vest size.

In order to provide maximum protection while riding, you should purchase leathers that are designed for your riding style and that fit comfortably and properly.

Please take into account the clothing you will be wearing underneath your vest when selecting your size. Your shirt size will not necessarily be your vest size.

If you have any doubts be sure and send an email describing any questions you may have.

Motor Cycle Speeding

Author: george markos

I have been riding motor cycles for 40 years and have never had a speeding fine or any other traffic infringement whilst riding.

During my driving/riding years I have travelled in excess of 2.5 million kilometers and still find it difficult to comprehend how any authority can place an arbitrary speed limit on any given section of road.To compound the problem we receive constant reminders of the impact of such arbitrary regulations in the form of continual police enforcement for minor infringements such as the issue of infringements for speed excesses of just 8 to 10% over the posted limit.

Well I can't speak for all riders, but in my case I find it extremely dangerous to be constantly looking down to monitor your speed every few seconds, coupled with the simple fact that most modern day motor cycles have graduations on the speedometer which escalate in 20km intervals over a very short range of movement, it becomes difficult to maintain a speed within a small range.

Does not seem to be too much of a problem until a police officer with a hand held or other form of speed detection device pings you at a specific moment in time when you happen to exceed the limit for a short period of time.

A very frustrating experience recently reminded me how we are all subjected to unnecessary stresses in modern society. A return journey of 500 kms to my home ended in a 20 minute debate discussing the very issue with a constable who was barely old enough to drive, insisting that I was a danger to other road users as he checked my speed at 106kms/hr in a 100 zone. Life can deliver a good laugh. Thank god for grey hair !!!!!!!!!!!

Mobility Scooters

By: Pete Marks

Mobility scooters, there are so many brands and models to chose from that researching and reading reviews can be confusing. An electric scooter can offer you freedom and pride without having to relie on help with others. Mobility scooters come in many capacities, colors or styles such as 3 wheel or 4 wheel. It pays to do your research and review you options before making that purchase.

Many lightweight mobility scooters have a capacity of 250 pounds. Some of your lightweight scooters can be folded or collapsed to be put in a trunk or car. Many other higher capacity scooters may requires a lift. In many cases the scooter may be covered by insurance but the lift may not. Again always check with your insurer before making that purchase.

Many lightweight models are of 3 wheel design. These models are usually more maneuverable and are great around the house or in tight areas. 4 wheel models are usually of more rugged design and have a higher capacity and are less prone to tipping. They also are more likely to have a further range but don't forget that range is dependent on several factors. These factors are, weight capacity, battery capacity, age of battery and temperature.

Also consider range and charging if you have a short range you will be spending more time charging. At some point you may need to replace batteries. Over time a rechargeable battery will lose its ability to take a full charge and your range could decrease.

With range on the 3 wheel lightweight mobility scooters you can expect about 10 mile range. On 4 wheel higher capacity models you may be looking at a range of about 25 miles or more. It all depends on the brand and model.

When purchasing a mobility scooter you have to ask yourself what you will be using it for. Is it for indoor or outdoor use. Will you be using it primarily indoors, to get around the golf course or make trips down to the local grocery store to pick up groceries. If you are picking up several bags of groceries you may need one with further range and capacity and this would apply to golf and because of the weight of the bag and clubs. Depending on your lifestyle you may require more than one mobility scooter.

Tires are another consideration, pneumatic tires may be prone to punctures but are lighter than solid core tires and have more shock absorbency. The solid core tires are heavier and do not have the shock adsorbing ability of air filled tires and may give a stiffer ride but newer electric mobility scooters may have suspensions that compensate and alleviate the knocks and bumps of uneven surfaces. Pneumatic tires will need to be checked more often for the correct air pressure. Regardless at some point depending on how often you travel or use your scooter you will probably need to change tires and of course this will be determined also on the type of surfaces you travel on.

There are many things to consider when you buy a scooter for mobility. Always check with Medicare or your medical insurance to make sure your purchase is covered. Just make sure you have reviewed all your options and done your research before making that purchase.

All About Motorcycle Classifications

By: L Quinn

There are many types of motorcycles, with each class having distinct differences. Here are the basics of the different types of motorcycle classes.

Cruisers and Choppers

A cruiser is a type of motorcycle where the rider has a straighter position while sitting and the feet are always in a forward position on the bike, meaning they are resting up or in front of the rider. Where for example on a bicycle, for instance, your feet are below where you are sitting. Cruisers are said to be more comfortable for riding long distances. Cruisers tend to be the most widely customized motorcycles and as such are sometimes referred to as "custom motorcycles". These custom cruisers, also called "choppers", which comes from a reference to the frame being chopped by having the front fork extended. The chopper was the type of motorcycle that Henry Fonda and Dennis Hopper rode in the 1960's movie Easy Rider. A cruiser or chopper is also the most popular class of motorcycle for the serious biker and you'll find a majority of bikers riding them at motorcycle conventions, expos, rallies and other events, as they give off the classic "cool" biker look. The leading maker of this type of bike is Harley Davidson.

Touring Bikes

Touring bikes are another major type of motorcycle. Touring bikes differ from cruisers and choppers in that they are geared towards riders who wish to travel frequently or have commutes. Typically, a touring bike has a large wind screen above the handlebar area. A touring bike will also typically have a larger fuel tank to allow for less frequent stops during travel. The seats and seating position are also optimized for long rides, with more overall comfort and better positioning. Some types of touring bikes may also have luggage and storage options including hard case saddlebags and storage on the rear end of the bike. Other types of touring bikes offer amenities that you'd find on cars, including heated seats, stereo systems, GPS and even air conditioning. Safety devices such as air bags have also been included in some touring bike models. Other types of touring bikes are optimized for off road travel, and include higher ground clearance and extra shielding for protection from off road hazards. A good example of this type of bike is the police bikes that were used on the TV show "Chips". Honda, BMW and Yamaha are some of the leading makers of touring bikes.

Sport Bikes

Sport bikes are much less geared towards comfort than to optimizing the overall performance of the bike. The speed and acceleration are foremost a priority for sport bike enthusiasts. To accommodate this, sport bikes typically offer features like wider tires, lightweight frames and technologically advanced braking, which all sit on a high performance engine. Sport bikes are also much more aerodynamically designed to lessen wind drag and maximize speed, so you'll see very sleek, smooth and often colorful designs. There are also different types of sport bikes, with small sport bikes offering engines from 100 cc to 150 cc, all the way up to what's known as hyper sport bikes, with engines ranging from 1000 cc all the way up to an astounding 1400 cc. Japanese makers lead the pack when it comes to sport bikes, with makers like Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha being at the forefront.
